This painting portrays Jacob’s Ladder in quite a different way than the artist’s other reditions. Here we see the ladder firmly in place. Thick black support beams and solid rungs, firmly attached to both land and sky, while angels travel up and down. It declairs that there is a solid bond between Jacob and his descendents with God:13 And behold, the Lord stood above it and said, “I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac.
